We are encouraged to call to mind all the favors we have received. I have been taught to close my eyes and ‘see’ my life like a movie, letting the Holy Spirit lead, since He reminds us of …
all the good things that God has done for us
is currently doing for us
and will continue to do for us until the day He calls us home.
This one simple imaginative prayer meditation has opened my heart and mind for necessary healing from all obstacles that stand in the way of letting God’s love have full operation in my life.
Trauma therapy begins right here, in the presence of our Creator.
There is no safer space.
The more the obstacles are removed, the more space is opened up for the love of God to move in and flow out to others in a constant stream.
Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to;
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
God created us with an imagination that will work for us, not against us.
We imagine, we ‘see’ the Word of God, working in our lives; doing what it says it will do.
My personal favorite imaginative contemplative prayer from Father Timothy Gallagher:
“See the look of the Love of God upon you.”
Today I am choosing to ‘see the look of the love of God upon me’ in His gift of my spouse.
Please leave your comments and/or the ways in which God has led you to live in an attitude of gratitude.
Carrie, thank you for sharing this beautiful contemplation. Using your prompt, I was able to reflect on God's goodness throughout my life. He showed me how he has been there supporting me and loving me from the beginning. What a refreshing way to begin a day and have confidence to lean into God's providence. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” – James 1:17
I really feel like it’s a huge help to me to contemplate God’s love for me (and each of us). It helps to cut away all of the extra thoughts and feelings that keep me from experiencing the Father’s love.
